Coir roll
RoLanka’s BioD-Roll™ coir rolls are made from coir fiber densely packed into a tubular 2 in x 2 in outer netting. These stronger coir rolls provide initial structural stability for shorelines and streambanks by resisting wave action and flow velocity. The coir fiber core in BioD-Roll™ is an excellent medium for plant growth. After installing the coir rolls, desired native plants should be planted on or around them where plants can get sufficient water. With time, sediment will be deposited around the coir rolls, creating an excellent medium for riparian vegetation. The densely-packed coir rolls last over five years providing erosion resistance and supporting establishment of sustainable vegetation.

  • RoLanka’s BioD-Roll™ coir rolls are available in 12 in (30 cm), 16 in (40 cm), and 20 in (50 cm) diameters.
  • The outer netting with, eye size of 2 in x 2 in (5cmx5cm), is available in 90 lbs (400 N) strength coir twine.
  • All RoLanka coir rolls are available in 9 lbs/cu. ft. (144 kg/cu.m) density and the 12 in diameter coir log is also available in 7 lbs/cu. ft. (112 kg/cu.m) density also.
  • All the rolls are available in 10 ft sections. RoLanka supply coir twine to connect coir rolls easily at the site
  • We recommend using diagonally cut pine wedges to install coir logs.

Coir rolls

Coir roll application
  • Longevity and strength of coir rolls depend on their density. Use high density (9 lbs/cu. ft) coir rolls for strong and long lasting support.

  • Dry coir rolls have more strength and durability than vegetated coir rolls. The high cost of transportation and difficulty in handling vegetated coir rolls make restoration with vegetated coir rolls more expensive and less practical. High density coir rolls last longer, allowing sufficient time to establish sustainable vegetation while controlling erosion.

  • Use 10-ft long coir rolls. They are easier to handle and cost less to ship. Rolls can easily be joined to a desired length at the site with twine (bristle coir or synthetic). Loose mattress coir fiber is available to fill the joints, if necessary.
